Summer Scything Events @ Mersey Vale Nature Park

Here’s your chance to have a go at the old art of scything and help maintain areas of species-rich grassland at Mersey Vale Nature Park (MVNP) which are a vital source of habitat and food for wildlife.

We are delighted that Adam from Cheshire Wildlife Trust is returning this year to lead the MVNP scything days for us.  It’s a really enjoyable day and as the scythes are a light design you don’t need to be strong.

The scything sessions will be on the following dates, between 10am and 3.00pm:

  • Wednesday 19th July
  • Thursday 10th August
  • Wednesday 16th August
  • Sunday 20th August
  • Thursday 14th September

The events are free, tools, gloves and training will be provided.  If you can’t stay the full day that’s fine, but you do need to be there at 10am for the training and set up.

All you will need to bring is any food, drink and medication you may need for the day, stout footwear, weather appropriate clothing and sun cream.

If you would like to find out more or take part please email Adam at amachin@cheshirewt.org.uk  letting him know which date(s) you are interested in.

NB.  This event involves the use of sharp blades so when you get in contact please let Adam know if you, or anyone joining you, is under 18   It is not suitable for children aged 14 and under.
