Scything @ Mersey Vale Nature Park

Here’s your chance to have a go at the old art of scything and help maintain areas of species-rich grassland at Mersey Vale Nature Park (MVNP) which are a vital source of habitat and food for wildlife.

We are delighted that Adam from Cheshire Wildlife Trust is returning this year to lead the MVNP scything days for us.  It’s a really enjoyable day and as the scythes are a light design you don’t need to be strong.

MVNP is a 23.5 hectare site so there’s a lot of grassland to cut. In addition to this event on Wednesday, 16th August he will be running more scything sessions here on the following dates, all between 10am and 3.00pm:

  • Sunday 20th August
  • Thursday 14th September

The events are free, tools, gloves and training will be provided.  If you can’t stay the full day that’s fine, but you do need to be there at 10am for the training and set up.

Meet up point: Sidings Orchard at Mersey Vale Nature Park.  The nearest entrance is on Craig Road, opposite Ravenswood Avenue.

All you will need to bring is any food, drink and medication you may need for the day, stout footwear, weather appropriate clothing (including a change of clothing in case we get caught out by bad weather) and sun cream.

If you would like to find out more or take part please email Adam at  letting him know which date(s) you are interested in.

NB.  This event is only open to people over 18.
